Burning Pain On The Sides Of The Knee
If you have experienced a burning on the left or right side of your knee, you know that this type of pain is excruciating. Many have compared it to sticking a dagger into the knee joint.
What is generally going on in this situation is that your knee joint is pushing down on your meniscus, which is the knees shock absorber, and forcing it to squeeze out the sides of the knee. Just like if you were to put bubble gum between two bricks and press down, it can ooze out the sides. If there is excess tension in your knee, the meniscus will start to do the same thing and squeeze out the sides of your knee joint, causing the intense pain to emerge.
Many times this can cause the knee to feel unstable because that shock absorber that guided and cushioned the knees movements is dislocated. Fortunately for you, there is a pain free solution to this burning pain.
The first thing you need to do if you have this type of knee pain is to relax. If your knee is in a comfortable position and the tension is removed, the nerves in your knee will relax as well. The key here is to create space in your knee joint so that the meniscus can go back into its normal position. Once this happens, the relief is immediate.

Or really, Is anything strange happening beyond your knee pain?
For example, can you still flex your knee all the way? Most people get frightened when their knee locks and cant straighten anymore. Often the culprit is called Bakers cyst, a fluid-filled sac behind the knee caused by inflammation.

For overuse injuries, the best solution is often to rest, apply an ice pack, and focus on muscle building activities that do not put strain on the knees. However, if the pain continues to build despite resting, a person should talk to their doctor about their symptoms.
They may be able to recommend additional therapies, such as physical or occupational therapy. In severe cases, they may even recommend surgical options.

Physical Trauma Or Injury:
When it comes to single nerve damage on one foot, trauma or injury is the most common cause for this, for example, injury from a car accident, playing sports, falls, medical procedures or surgeries that led to compressing, stretching, or injuring the nerve supplying this area. Sometimes even milder forms of trauma could cause nerve damage such as extended pressure on a nerve caused by a cast or really tight shoes, forceful and repetitive movements that put pressure on the tendons or ligaments and cause it to swell, which in return narrows the pathway where the nerve passes causing damage. Additionally, dislocated bones can cause damaging pressure to the adjacent nerves.

How To Treat Burning Knee Pain
The treatment for knee pain will depend on the diagnosis. Often times the treatment involves a change in your training, a change in where you are running and an exercise or physical therapy program.
In order to minimize the burning pain we may recommend Tylenol, or anti-inflammatory medications too. A heating pad is often your best friend. Just do not leave it on more that 10-15 minutes at a time, and do not fall asleep with it on your knee. Hot baths helps too.
If you are given a set of exercises to do it is important that you try to make them part of your normal routine.
What Does Burning Pain Mean
A burning sensation is a type of pain thats distinct from dull, stabbing, or aching pain. A burning pain is often related to nerve problems. However, there are many other possible causes. Injuries, infections, and autoimmune disorders have the potential to trigger nerve pain, and in some cases cause nerve damage.

What Can You Do For The Pain
Your plan will depend on your specific injury. Mild to moderate issues will often get better on their own. To speed the healing, you can:
- Rest your knee. Take a few days off from intense activity.
- Ice it to curb pain and swelling. Do it for 15 to 20 minutes every 3 to 4 hours. Keep doing it for 2 to 3 days or until the pain is gone.
- Compress your knee. Use an elastic bandage, straps, or sleeves to wrap the joint. It will keep down swelling or add support.
- Elevate your knee with a pillow under your heel when you’re sitting or lying down to cut down on swelling.
- Take anti-inflammatorymedications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or naproxen will help with pain and swelling. Follow the instructions on the label. These drugs can have side effects, so you should only use them now and then unless your doctor says otherwise.
- Practice stretching and strengthening exercises if your doctor recommends them. You may want to do physical therapy, too.
Make an appointment with a doctor if you still have pain after 2 weeks of home treatment, if the knee becomes warm, or if you have fever along with a painful, swollen knee.
Some people with knee pain need more help. For instance, if you have bursitis, your doctor may need to draw out extra fluid from the bursa in your knee. If you have arthritis, you may need an occasional corticosteroid shot to settle down inflammation. And if you have a torn ligament or certain knee injuries, you may need surgery.

For example, if you’ve never ridden a bicycle for more than five miles and attempt to ride fifty miles in a day, you may end up with a sore IT band, and the outside of your knee will burn.
