Good morning forum! Im 10 weeks post op and I was wondering if anyone else have experienced sensitivity with their TKR? My knee is so sensitive it almost feels like I have no skin protecting it. I normally use my compression knee highs to help. It is quite painful especially when the covers rub against it. Other than the compression stocking, is there anything else I can do to relieve the discomforting feeling?

There Is No Easy Surgical Solution For Anterior Knee Pain
The mere fact that there are likely to be ten or more described surgical techniques to try and treat pain in the front of your knee should give you pause. That usually means that none have been very successful, so we keep trying new ones. Surgery for anterior knee pain has not been proven to be more effective than a proper exercise program.

Burning Pain At The Side Of The Knee
Any kind of knee injury or pain causes alarm. When you feel pain at the side of your knee, you often do not have a knee problem at all.
Your knee is a complicated joint where two major bones and sets of muscles meet. If either of those two sets of muscles is injured, then your knee will hurt as a result. The muscles stabilize that joint, so a compromised muscle also compromises the joint.
Your IT band or iliotibial band is a band of connective tissue that runs from your hip to your knee and shin. When the band is tight from exercise, it will rub against your thigh bone, causing friction and pain down to your knee.

There are several things that can cause pain at the front of your knee or increase your risk of developing it. These include:
- using your knee a lot for example, doing lots of exercise or playing sports
- injuring your knee for example, having a direct blow to your knee
- being overweight because this puts your knees under more stress

What Causes Osteoarthritis Of The Knee
Osteoarthritis of the knee happens when your knee joint cartilage wears out or is damaged. Articular cartilage is tough, rubbery tissue on the ends of your bones that lets you bend and move. Meniscal cartilage absorbs shock from pressure on your knee.
Your cartilage is like your cars shock absorber, protecting your car from bumps and jolts. Drive on lots of rough roads, your shocks wear out fast. Drive on easy streets, your shocks last longer. You can wear out or damage your knee joint cartilage if:
- Youre overweight. If your body mass index is 30 or more, youre seven times more likely to develop osteoarthritis in your knee than someone with a lower BMI.

Pressing On The Knee Doesnt Hurt
Sometimes, knee pain can be caused by problems elsewhere in the body. Sciatica which generally refers to pain that travels from the lower back into the lower legs can cause pain down the leg through the knee, for example. Hip problems can also cause pain in the knee area, Gotlin says. If youre unable to increase your pain level by pressing or touching your knee, your knee might not be injured at all and you should consult your doctor to figure out whats going on. If you cant make it hurt, its possible that the injury may have come from somewhere else, Gotlin explains.
