When you kneel on the ground, do you ever wonder why your shins hurt? Have you gone to Google and typed in why do my shins hurt when I kneel? only to find tons of information on shin splints?

Youre not alone. I noticed my shins really hurting when I knelt on the floor around 2011 when I got a personal trainer. Ive had shin splints before, and it didnt feel anything like that because the pain only came when I was kneeling. Or using the machines at the gym where you push up the bar with your shins, or really whenever any pressure was put on my shins .

My knees sweat and I never have gotten an answer for that , so why wouldnt there be another unexplained anomaly about my body?

Nobody ever writes about their shins hurting when they kneel.

Of course one of the big reasons youve never found anything on the internet about why your shins hurt when its not shin splints is because nobody has ever written about it on the internet. I wont go into the way Google works, but if youve noticed, this isnt really a topic covered by the what is lipedema pages and sites that actually do exist.

What Causes Pain Between Knee And Shin

The pain between knee and shin related to shin splints arises from extreme quantities of force on the shin bone and the tissues attaching the shin bone to the muscles surrounding it. The excessive force causes the muscles to swell and increases the pressure against the bone, resulting in pain and inflammation.

Shin splints can also result from stress reactions to bone fractures. The continuous pounding can cause minute cracks in the bones of the leg. The body can fix the cracks if offered time to rest. However, if the body doesnt get time to rest, the small fractures can result in a total fracture or a stress fracture.

Runners Knee is the common name for chondromalacia, a condition where the cartilage underneath the kneecap wears as a consequence of the friction caused by an incorrect tracking of the kneecap during the running motion. The recognizeable symptoms are inflammation and pain under the kneecap while running.

The main biomechanical causes of this condition are overpronation of the foot and an imbalance between the hamstrings and the quadriceps in particular loos quadriceps and tight hamstrings. The quadriceps-hamstrings imbalance can accentuate overpronation.

Anyone who has ever suffered with shin splints will agree, theyre among the most frustrating injuries as they make a basic act running impossible.

That said, sports medicine specialists dont like to use the term shin splints, which actually denotes more than one lower-leg ailment. The main problems referred to as shin splints are:

1. Muscle strain: Shin splints can arise when the key muscles that control the slow lowering of your foot at each step and maintain the longitudinal foot arch are put through their paces. The main muscle groups in question are the tibialis anterior and the tibialis posterior. Most soft tissue injuries are caused because the muscles are too weak and too short to do the job theyre designed to do, so as you increase the mileage, they start to break down.

2. Stress fractures: Tibial stress fractures are overuse injuries that occur when the muscles become fatigued and cant absorb the shock of running. Consider the average size of the ACL or PCL. Theyre smaller than you might think. The ACL is about one centimeter wide and has a range of eight to thirteen millimeters wide, while the PCL is thirteen to sixteen millimeters. Both of these ligaments are only about four centimeters in length.

  • Ice: Apply a cold compress to your shins every 10 to 20 minutes, three to four times a day, for a few days. Ice helps relieve the swelling and pain of shin splints.
  • Pain relievers: Over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can ease pain and swelling.
